He's Coming For Me

September 2009.

Derwent Artists Colour pencil on paper.

I think it’s impossible to capture – in a single word or image – the amazing expansive reality of Jesus. Too easily we slip into our ideas of a vague ‘nice’ Jesus – the guy next door who tells people hey, let’s just all get along and be forgiving and all that. The Jesus in the Bible is so much more than that; yes, He is good, loving, merciful, kind, generous, patient and just – but He is also Holy, righteous and will one day return to judge the living and the dead [Romans 14:9; 2 Timothy 4:1].

This illustration is inspired by these Scriptures. I wouldn’t dare to make a claim about Jesus’ exact appearance, nor what it will look like when He does return.

John 2:12-16 (NIV) – After this he went down to Capernaum with his mother and brothers and his disciples. There they stayed for a few days. When it was almost time for the Jewish Passover, Jesus went up to Jerusalem. In the temple courts he found men selling cattle, sheep and doves, and others sitting at tables exchanging money. So he made a whip out of cords, and drove all from the temple area, both sheep and cattle; he scattered the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables. To those who sold doves he said, “Get these out of here! How dare you turn my Father’s house into a market!”

Revelation 19:11-15 (NIV) –  I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True. With justice he judges and makes war. His eyes are like blazing fire, and on his head are many crowns. He has a name written on him that no one knows but he himself. He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and his name is the Word of God. The armies of heaven were following him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen, white and clean. Out of his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations. “He will rule them with an iron scepter.” He treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty.

I write a bit more about my Christian faith at my Blog, as well as offering a list of recommended books about Christianity.

Many thanks to the RedBubble Group For The Love Of Jesus for featuring this work in October 2009. I greatly appreciate all their encouragement!
